This story is one I am deeply connected to. Watching this cast and the creative team as they delve into the world of these characters is a treat. I can’t wait to be back in the room with them again!

It’s a privilege to contribute to developmental work, especially when the subject matter is so cool and so fun. Any time we work on Mechanical Heart, I spend a month waking up with the songs in my head.

How To Repair A Mechanical Heart

Hybrid performance and capture of a new musical’s developmental process.

Returning to a rehearsal room after the lockdown, Transcend Streaming brought a 29-hour developmental readings from a normal room to a hybrid platform. Leanna, spearheading the streaming end, and Kyra, holding down the fort as Stage Manager, Transcend Streaming was able to direct film angles, create an audio balance that sounds even better than the studio audience heard, and secure an archival recording for the developmental team.

Brandon and Abel could not be more different, but three months ago they met on the “Screw Your Sensors” fan fiction group (the third most popular on the internet!) and became fast friends over their shared love of the group’s main focus: the sci-fi TV show Castaway Planet. The summer after Brandon’s high school graduation, these two cute and snarky boys finally get to spend more than a few hours together over FaceTime! The boys, along with Brandon’s best friend and nerd skeptic Bec, will be hitting the road in an RV to attend Castacon, the annual convention for superfans. During their two-week cross-country adventure, Brandon and Abel spar with an online community of fan fiction writers, meet their TV idols, uncover big secrets, and maybe possibly fall in love. Can two fanboys face down their obstacles and write themselves a real-life romance – or is fiction the only thing bringing them together? How to Repair a Mechanical Heart is a modern take on a romantic Broadway musical comedy.
